The day started with a ride into Sturgis with some stops along the way at the Harley dealership in Rapid City and other vendor display areas long the 22-mile route to Sturgis from Rapid City.
For those of us who had never been to Sturgis before—That’s four of the six—it was hard to describe the level of activity in the town. Main Street was wall to wall bikes (two deep in the center and one deep along the curb) but we managed to find spaces very quickly and began walking the town looking for familiar faces and new ones as well.
One of the major stops for us was the Indian Motorcycle display. With the revival of the old styling and all new engineering, we’re looking forward to the Indian coming to market later this year. After our stay there, we found lunch and did some people watching (a lot of that going on and a lot of people to see) and then split up.
A couple of the riders were enticed to stay at a bar for some type of contest involving water and T-shirts while the others, too old to really care about water and T-shirts, headed back to Rapid City to enjoy an evening of good food, drink and conversation.
